IMMI takes home the NEIA's Cleantech Innovation Award
Cleantech Innovation Award
This award, open to business and academia, recognizes clean technology innovation in Newfoundland and Labrador. Innovations can be recognized at any stage of development – from research and development, to commercialization, to refinement – of products, services, or processes that can mitigate effects to, protect, or enhance the environment. The award is judged according to the uniqueness of the innovation, the potential for positive environmental impact, and the potential for commercial application.

The Creative Destruction Lab (CDL) is a program that offers coaching from a group of entrepreneurs who have founded, led, and exited significant technology and science based companies, hands-on support from MBA students and opportunities to receive significant investment.

Acceptance into The Grow Export Program
Intelligent Materials was accepted into The Grow Export program, an Atlantic Canadian initiative designed to assist small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to become export ready. The program is an initiative of the Government of Canada and the four Atlantic Provinces in partnership with the Nova Scotia Association of Community Business Development Corporations and Kisserup International Trade Roots Inc.

Acceptance into Genesis Enterprise Program
The Enterprise program at Genesis Centre is a program to help entrepreneurs commercialize their ideas. This program offers a working space alongside other entrepreneurs, an in-house support team and access to marketing, finance, industry mentors and management resources.

Funding through The Big Raise: All in for Women
The Big Raise Poker Tournament was an exclusive Charity event founded by Craig Rowe and Craig Tucker as a way to combine the social aspect of poker with a passion of giving back to the community.
The Big Raise for women was a special edition, an event for women tech entrepreneurs by women business leaders. The funds raised during the evening of January 27th went towards supporting six female-led technology companies in the province. IMMI was one of the six selected companies.

Funding through NRC Industrial Outreach for co-op student
Through the Green Youth Program at NRC (National Research Council) and Industrial Outreach at the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science (FEAS) at Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN), a co-op student was hired over the duration of two semesters to assist IMMI to a total of $12,125.

Featured in the JAWWA
Stefana talked about her experience as a Young Professional, winner of the Poster Competition at the 2016 Annual Conference and Exhibition of the American Water Works Association, (ACE2016 AWWA) in Chicago and highlighted the role her participation to this conference had in pursuing commercialization of the MIPaq through Intelligent Materials.

Speaker at NEIA's Innovation Connector
Stefana talked at NEIA's Innovation Connector about the technology available at Intelligent Materials. The NEIA Innovation Connector was scheduled on the first day of the Innovation Week and brought together researchers and companies from Newfoundland and Labrador to talk about the clean technology development and needs in the province relating to ocean industries, waste, water and energy.

First place at the Genesis Centre Pitch Competition
Intelligent Materials won first place at the Pitch & Pick competition, the culmination of the Genesis Centre's Evolution program.
Intelligent Materials competed against five other companies selected from three cohorts of start-ups enrolled in the Fall and Winter Evolution programs offered at Memorial University and the College of the North Atlantic.

ACOA-AIF Award Funding
Funding of $936,000 for product development and commercialization of the MIP technology was granted through ACOA-AIF (Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency-Atlantic Innovation Fund) project "MIP-Based System for Water Quality Monitoring". The project will be carried out at Memorial University from April 1st, 2017 until March 31st, 2019 by a team of researchers composed of Professor Christina Bottaro (Lead), Proffesor Kelly Hawboldt, Assisstant Proffesor Carlos Bazan and Dr. Stefana Egli.
IMMI is the commercialization partner and directly and actively participates and benefits from these project.

Enrollment in the MoTR program
Intelligent Materials was selected to attend the MoTR (MaRS on the Rock) program offered through a collaboration between Genesis Centre and the largest innovation hub in Canada, MaRS.
This program consisted of fourteen in person workshops presented by successful entrepreneurs from MaRS and included training on business model design, financing, and entrepreneurial leadership.

InnovateNL Award Funding
Dr. Stefana Egli and Professor Christina Bottaro were granted $248,000 through the provincial InnovateNL ArcticTECH program for recent graduates to carry out technological and market validation of a MIP sensor for detection and tracking of oil in arctic climates. The project will be carried out at Memorial University of Newfoundland.
